A team of Shibuya Lab members lead by Dr. Chenchen Sun participated in the NetMob 2026 Data Challenge and presented their research at the international conference, held in Niterói, Brazil, on October 14–16, 2026. On October 15, doctoral student Yuxi Zhang delivered an oral presentation on behalf of the team in the Data Challenge session.
Using data on Niterói’s bus operations and passenger boardings, the team examined inequalities in access to healthcare, education, shops, and other essential facilities. The study combined accessibility analysis with simulations of flood and landslide disruptions and observations of actual bus use. The findings indicated that lower-income neighborhoods face disadvantages in everyday accessibility as well as greater accessibility losses under simulated disaster conditions, highlighting the importance of addressing both equity and resilience in public transport planning.
